Basic language history is also part of learning English. Here below I have collected some material and sites I find useful when introducing and explaining the history of the English language up until today.

The interactive Ages of English above is excellent and I also find the British History Timeline useful (even though both have been archived and are no longer updated)

More up-to-date is this HISTORY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1 Birth of a Language doc series 1 found at English History ChannelThere are seven more programs in the same series. All of them interesting.

Of these eight the two below, on English in America and English today are most relevant.
